William Marshal was one of the most famous knights of the Middle Ages. He was a close confidant of three kings, fought in some of the most famous battles of the era, and was the only man to ever hold the title of Queen's Champion.
Marshal was born in 1146 to a noble family in England. He began his military career at a young age, and quickly rose through the ranks. By the time he was in his twenties, he was one of the most respected knights in the kingdom.
In 1189, Marshal was appointed as the Queen's Champion by King Richard I. This was a prestigious position, and it gave Marshal the responsibility of protecting the queen and her household.
Marshal served as Queen's Champion for over two decades. During this time, he fought in some of the most famous battles of the era, including the Battle of Bouvines in 1214. He also served as a close advisor to three kings: Richard I, John, and Henry III.
Marshal died in 1219 at the age of 73. He was buried in the Temple Church in London. His tomb is still there today, and it is a popular tourist attraction.
Marshal was a true knight errant. He was brave, loyal, and chivalrous. He was also a skilled warrior and a wise counselor. He is remembered as one of the greatest knights of the Middle Ages.
