In addition to her singing career, Farrar was also a successful actress. She appeared in several films, including the 1915 silent film Carmen. Farrar also wrote two books, Such Sweet Compulsion and Farrar on Farrar.

Farrar retired from singing in 1922, but she continued to be active in the music world. She taught singing, gave lectures, and served on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Opera. Farrar died in 1967 at the age of 84.
